• Keep in mind the GA House is not conservative. Precede with caution on all the ballot initiatives.
  • HR1022 — if your county opts out of the Homestead Exemption. It will follow the inflation rate and no more than 3% increase. This will stop the assessments being so outrageous. It was told to BKP that the counties will have until March 2025 to be able to opt out after having 3 community forums and voting on the measure, although it does not say in the bill being voted on. Diane’s take on the bill is that you give up the security of the counties unable to opt out of homestead exemptions to cap the appraisal value of the property.
  • HB808 — raising the personal tangible property from 7500 to 20000. There is a discrepancy in the bill on the website vs what was passed. It looks like a good bill from what was told and what was written except the bill on the website says 50K and not 20K. BKP reports that $20K was the amount voted on.
  • HR598 — will develop a new state-wide Tax Court. The judge will be appointed by the governor, not elected by citizens. It will probably be located in Atlanta.
