THE GEORGIA HOUR — Today is Georgia 101

  • Today is Georgia 101
  • Thursday will be the State of the State address where Gov Kemp will lay out his agenda for the upcoming legislative session. The Lt Gov Burt Jones who was endorsed by Donald Trump it is understood that he and Kemp are not the closest of friends. There is some friction there. In 2026 is our election cycle. Burt Jones is going to put in a bid for governor and Chris Carr has already put his hat in for governor. Brian Kemp has asked for people to get through this legislative session before campaigning.
  • The state of GA republican house and senate used to have a supermajority. Meaning that if Kemp doesn’t want it to make it into law, they don’t have the option to force the bill into law. We elect our state house and senate members every 2 years, it has shrunk everytime. Democrats continue to dilute the republican majority.
  • All our constitutional officers are on the ballot in 2026. They will start bantering back and forth on legislation. Kemp is termed out and cannot run again. He may step out and run for US Senate against Ossoff. This will open the door for open primaries for many constitutional offices. This may be the largest election in GA. In GA we have a monarchy. Brian Kemp was appointed to the Secretary of State office. Chris Carr was appointed Attorney General. John King was appointed to this office. Kemp will appoint a new Commissioner of Labor, we are waiting on who he will appoint.
  • Our state senate is the closest we come to be conservative. We have some individuals that will stand up and fight some battles but the problem is they have to negotiate down to pass bills that the liberal house will pass. In the House the 180 members do not push back on the speaker. Jon Burns, the speaker of the house, is not a conservative
  • We are probably the only state that has a dual governorship. Marty Kemp plays a large role in the governor’s office. There is a lot of speculation that she wants to run for office. Marty is in the list of administration. Remember Brian Kemp is the chair of the Republican Governors Association.
  • Reviewing the Georgia General Assembly website. Today there will be a lot of back slapping and formalities.
