El Salvador’s Transformation, Media Missteps, and Trump’s Foreign Policy Stance

El Salvador’s pres­i­dent, praised by Trump dur­ing a White House vis­it, has over­seen a shift from the country’s past as the “mur­der cap­i­tal of the world” through tough anti-crime mea­sures. The media is crit­i­cized for por­tray­ing an impris­oned El Sal­vado­ran MS-13 gang mem­ber as a “Mary­land man,” false­ly imply­ing U.S. cit­i­zen­ship and down­play­ing his crim­i­nal­i­ty. This focus on one indi­vid­ual over­shad­ows major glob­al issues like Ukraine, Chi­na, and Iran. The U.S. can­not force El Sal­vador to release the pris­on­er, and courts lack author­i­ty over for­eign pol­i­cy. Trump encour­aged build­ing five more pris­ons in El Sal­vador, prompt­ing some U.S. immi­grants to con­sid­er self-depor­ta­tion. Domes­ti­cal­ly, Trump is restor­ing orig­i­nal names to U.S. mil­i­tary bases and rein­stalling stat­ues. He also blames Ukraine’s Zelen­sky, along­side two oth­ers, for mil­lions of deaths, accus­ing him of pro­long­ing the war to buy weapons under mar­tial law.

• The El Sal­vador pres­i­dent was at the White House. Trump likes the guy. El Sal­vador was once known as the mur­der cap­i­tal of the world. The media wants you to believe that the guy that is stuck in El Sal­vador is the father of the year. The guy is in prison in El Sal­vador. The media is mis­lead­ing say­ing that he is a Mary­land man, but the truth is that he is an El Sal­vador cit­i­zen. If the media had their chance they would return all these mur­der­ers and gang mem­bers. 
• These tough actions are chang­ing things all across this coun­try. The US can­not tell the pres­i­dent of El Sal­vador to return him back to the US. The courts can­not tell the pres­i­dent how to do for­eign pol­i­cy. Trump told the pres­i­dent of El Sal­vador to build five more pris­ons. Immi­grants across the US con­sid­er self-depor­ta­tion. 
• When you have a media that will not shut up about one per­son you have to think about what is going on out there. They are stuck on the “Mary­land” man, think about the amount of time that is put into this sto­ry, one indi­vid­ual. They don’t report any­thing going on in Ukraine, EU, Chi­na, Tai­wan, Iran…nothing. 
• We are return­ing our mil­i­tary bases around the Unit­ed States to their orig­i­nal names and replac­ing the stat­ues back in place. 
• Trump blames Zelen­sky again: Mil­lions dead because of 3 peo­ple. Zelen­sky doesn’t want the war to end, there is mar­tial law in place, he wants to keep buy­ing weapons.
