Power Struggle in Georgia’s 9th District: Tensions Over Party Control

In Geor­gia’s staunch­ly Repub­li­can 9th Dis­trict, a recent chair­man forum in Fan­nin Coun­ty under­scored ongo­ing inter­nal bat­tles with­in the Geor­gia GOP. Josh McK­oon, backed by Denise Burns, is push­ing to con­sol­i­date con­trol, par­tic­u­lar­ly in the 14th Dis­trict, while also tar­get­ing the 9th, 7th, and 11th Dis­tricts to steer the par­ty away from the “MAGA” influ­ence asso­ci­at­ed with for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump. The choice of Dal­ton for the GOP con­ven­tion address­es com­plaints about trav­el dis­tances for North Geor­gia Repub­li­cans. Deb­bie Doo­ley sup­ports Stephen Aaron, who oppos­es an account­abil­i­ty rule aimed at pre­vent­ing Democ­rats from run­ning as Repub­li­cans. If McKoon’s fac­tion flips the 9th, 7th, and 11th Dis­tricts, it could sig­nif­i­cant­ly dimin­ish the MAGA wing’s influ­ence in Georgia’s Repub­li­can Par­ty, reshap­ing its ide­o­log­i­cal direc­tion.

• In the state of GA we have the 9th dis­trict, the most repub­li­can dis­trict in GA and one of the most repub­li­can dis­tricts in the coun­try. Last night the 9th dis­trict had a chair­man forum in Fan­nin Coun­ty. The 14th has been cor­nered by Josh McK­oon with Denise Burns. The Trump effect can nev­er hap­pen again. BKP was not sup­posed to win the 1st Vice Chair in the GA GOP. BJ Van Gundy was sup­posed to win his third term. They picked Dal­ton for their con­ven­tion. There was a com­plaint of North Geor­gia hav­ing to dri­ve to Savan­nah and Colum­bus. They need the 14th dis­trict to come in for McK­oon, MTG is doing this. He is try­ing to take the 9th, the 7th and the 11th. 
• Deb­bie did Josh call this in… Deb­bie Doo­ley is sup­port­ing Stephen Aaron. He is opposed to the account­abil­i­ty rule. We are tired of peo­ple check­ing off box­es and hav­ing democ­rats run as repub­li­cans. 
• If they flip the 9th dis­trict, the 7th and the 11th dis­trict they will have suc­cess­ful­ly de-MAGA the state.
