Georgia GOP Jockeying: McCormick’s Town Hall Flop and Chairman Chess
Rep. Rich McCormick (7th District) faced a staged town hall backlash, Democrat gains in Forsyth County, signaling a warning against a Senate run versus Jon Ossoff—a story now national. Chris Carr, with funds, pitches for governor at CPAC, while Trump pushes Kemp and Burt Jones for paper ballots, a state-level fight. GA GOP conventions loom—county caucuses ongoing, April 26 district, June 6–7 state—amid rumors Josh McKoon, eyeing a Trump nod, will challenge David Cross for chair, potentially paving the way for Salleigh Grubbs to rise from 1st vice chair if McKoon wins and later runs for AG.
- A lot of positioning going on for the Senate seat. The members of congress there is a reason why everyone has gone after the representative from the 7th district, Rich McCormick. He didn’t have to hold a town hall. The congressman couldn’t handle the mocking to maybe put him on notice that he wouldn’t make it as a senator. It has become a national story on the Sunday shows. It is running again this morning. He endorsed Ron DeSantis and the town hall is their way of saying, “are sure you want to run against Jon Ossoff.” It was all staged and set up. The 7th district is Forsyth county and the democrats are creeping into the district. Then to make matters worse, McCormick is running to the AJC podcast to discuss the town hall.
- Chris Carr is running for governor and goes to CPAC. he does have money in the bank? Why would CPAC allow him on the stage?
- Brian Kemp you were told by Donald Trump to go to paper ballots. Burt Jones you want to be the next governor and you want Trump endorsement, go to paper ballots. The federal government has no control over this; it has to come from the pressure of the people.
- GA GOP key convention dates. Need to relax and wait for people to show their hand. The counties 80K had their precinct caucuses this past weekend. Coming up is the county precinct caucus. Then April 26 is the district convention and June 6–7 is the State convention.
- Many have thought that Josh McKoon would run for a state office. He has run for a statewide office. There are rumors that he has been getting the trump endorsement but recently he announced that he was going to run for GOP chair. But he didn’t announce it until after David Cross announced. McKoon had a decision to make. They have to safeguard the GOP chair position and no way could they let David Cross have it. It has been rumored that Salleigh Grubbs wanted to be GOP chair. Another rumor once Cross announced he was running Salleigh and McKoon had a conversation that Salleigh didn’t have a chance against David. There are people saying that Josh is going for the chair against David Cross. And Salleigh is going for 1st vice chair. The real power is in the chairman spot. In June if Josh wins chair and salleigh wins 1st vice chair and Josh resigns to run for AG it will elevate Salleigh to chair.
