GA GOP in Crisis: Josh McKoon’s Leadership Flop and Election Board Struggles in 2025

Dive into the chaotic state of the Georgia GOP in 2025, where Chairman Josh McKoon grapples with mounting legal bills from the Fani Willis indictments of Cathy Latham, Shawn Still, and David Shafer. This episode exposes McKoon’s controversial rise, fueled by Shafer’s 2023 endorsement and hefty donor influence, as county, district, and state conventions loom. Amid parallels to DOGE’s federal upheaval, we question if McKoon’s focus on personal gain—tied to Shafer’s legal funding—overshadows the party’s mission, especially after Trump’s rejection of GOP kingmaking. McKoon’s failures shine through in neglected election boards across Georgia’s 159 counties, with 145 GOP-organized. The Cherokee County crisis exemplifies commissioners overriding party picks, threatening Republican control. Will McKoon’s missteps cede power to Democrats? Get the full scoop on Georgia’s GOP implosion.

  • The GA GOP current chair is Josh McKoon who is in the corporation papers as the CEO. It has been very tough with legal bills trying to defend and pay the legal bills for Cathy Lathem, Shawn Still, and David Shafer in the Fani Willis indictments. Now we have our county conventions coming up in a couple of weeks where we will choose our executive boards. Then there are our district conventions again electing our boards. Then the state convention where we will elect the state executive board. You will see a lot of endorsements of Josh McKoon. Josh has been around lots of money and influence and he will get large endorsements.
  • Just like DOGE in the federal government. The changes have to be made now to save the country. It is the same with the GA GOP. We have to make a change to save the party. When the American people elected Trump they rejected the republican party anointing the candidates. Now the GA GOP decides who will be anointed king. The GA GOP is in total disarray, it is not about who will be elected but the political gain of Josh McKoon. David Shafer and Josh McKoon are close friends. We all remember the email that David Shafer sent out appointing Josh McKoon. Now there was a vote to pay the legal bills for the alternative electors that were indicted by Fani Willis. There was concern that they would go to jail. What David Shafer did was to have someone to keep the commitment, and that someone was his friend Josh McKoon.
  • There was a conference call with an attorney from AZ, one from WI and Josh McKoon on the call to facilitate representation for Cathy Lathem. The WI attorney is willing to meet Josh and BKP while they will be in WI for the debate. BKP tried for two days to get the meeting while in WI, the meeting never happened.
  • In the 2023 letter that David Shafer issued to state delegates said that he will not seek re-election, he anoints Josh McKoon as the one candidate who was capable of doing the job and bearing the burdens that come with it. “With Josh McKoon indicating to me that he is willing to serve if elected. I finally feel free to say that I will not be seeking re-election as your State Chairman.” Where does it say that Josh McKoon will get republicans elected and raise the funds to do the job. David endorsed Josh about two weeks before Josh announced he was running. Was this to make sure that his legal bills were paid and he would stay out of jail.
  • Josh McKoon has dropped the ball across the state. Where we have challenges in elections, every county has an election board. You want to maintain local elections within the county. Now that is where you put in the challenges to elections in your county is at your county election board. Counties have a lot of authority but the fear is put in them by the Secretary of State office. The counties are put in fear not to go forward. WE have 159 counties in GA. The Republican party has 145 organized county GOPs. There are some counties that have 3 board members on the elections boards, most have 5 board members. Most republican parties in the 5 member board, the county GOP, have 2 members they put up for nominations. The commissioners accept or deny. It is the party’s pick. The democrat party has 2 democrat picks. Then the commission gets a pick. Everyone knows how little support you have had by the state.
  • There is a county that is having a problem. The commissioners are not accepting the nominations for the election board. The commissioner is picking who they want. Where is the GA GOP this is the battle. This is where we lose elections.
  • The Cherokee election board problem that is setting the standard in the state sidestepping the GA GOP. Josh McKoon and the GA GOP in the state have blown this, there are counties that have requested help from the state and have been blown off.
  • What will happen if your counties no longer have republicans on the board. What will happen if the republican party doesn’t get their pick on the state election board? And the Lt Gov is a democrat, the house majority is democrat.
