Budget negotiations in Washington are stalled, with discussions fixated on cuts rather than scrutinizing spending. Many politicians, described as career-driven and lacking business or accounting expertise, prioritize personal wealth and polling over national interest, mastering lobbyist influence and dark money. Alleged fraud in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid prompts calls for reductions, though media exaggerates claims, falsely suggesting Trump targets Medicaid. Media claiming the federal cuts threaten coal miner health programs, despite advancements in mining safety reducing Black Lung cases since the 1970s. Public funding of biased media is criticized as outdated, with demands for unbiased reporting or defunding. The White House pushes to end taxpayer support for skewed journalism. Meanwhile, new U.S. tariffs strain China’s garment industry, forcing manufacturers to seek alternative markets or cheaper production sites as tax loopholes close, signaling broader economic shifts.

  • They are working on the budget. They are not close to a deal. In their budget discussions spending is never questioned, only cutting. We only have a select few that are in DC to protect America and not enrich themselves. In general the people we send to DC are not smart, they are not business leaders and no nothing about accounting. Their career is in politics. And only concerned about their broker statement and polling. They learn how lobbyists work and dark money. All they concern themselves with is it going to hurt them back home.
  • The fraud in social security, medicare and medicaid cuts can be made. The media wants you to believe that they are cutting medicaid. Trump is not doing that. Jeffries says people will die and hospitals will be shut down. Trump is going to kill Big Bird. Trump’s cuts would pose a serious challenge for PBS and NPR.
  • Media goes to West Virginia to find the coal miners. Cuts to the federal government jeopardize coal miner health programs. In the 1970s, there was legislation that gave big money for Black Lung. Enormous payouts. In the mining industry there has been enormous advancements in ventilation to prevent long term black lung illness.
  • Government funding of news media in this environment is not only outdated and unnecessary but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence. At the very least, Americans have the right to expect that if their tax dollars fund public broadcasting at all, they fund only fair, accurate, unbiased, and nonpartisan news coverage. White House ending taxpayer subsidization of biased media.

  • China’s garment factories face a tipping point after new tariffs. As the US tax loophole ends, the apparel makers that sell to America are forced to consider alternative markets or cheaper locations in and outside China.
